• Make sure your child gets to school on time, dressed properly, well-rested and well-fed.  Make sure he/she is prepared--with all needed books and supplies.

    • Read to your child every evening.  Passing on a love for reading and learning is a great way to help a child!!!

    • Cut down on T.V.  Allow no more than 1-2 hours a day--and only

      programs appropriate for your child’s age. 

    • Talk about school. This shows you think school is important. Ask your child about his/her school day. 

    • Make a time and place to study. Try to keep noise and distractions to a minimum while your child is working.

    • Review/check your child’s assignments to be sure they are complete.

    • Listen to your child read daily, and have them retell the story to you in their own words. (Make sure they are stating the main idea of the story and that it makes sense.)

    • Encourage your child to recall the beginning, middle and end of each story, when retelling.

    • Agree to come to every conference.  Ask about your child’s strong points and areas for improvement.

    • Help your child with his/her math facts & math homework. Read and save the parent letters that explain the concepts your child will be taught.
