Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Nate Engevik
Room B-25 English 11 & English 8
My name is Nathan Engevik. Students may call me Mr. Nate Engevik or Mr. "E" for short. Welcome to my classroom. I have taught English or social studies at Roseau High School for 25 years. I served as head speech coach for most of that time. After retiring from teaching four years ago, I retuned to the classroom in 2015 as a half time English teacher. I earned undergraduate degrees in English and social studies from the University of Minnesota and Concordia College at Moorhead. I earned my Masters of Education from St. Scholastica at Duluth, Minnesota in 2002.
My favorite book is Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert M. Pirsig. This book questions the meaning of a quality life. One of the suggested responses to that question is that we should practice our lives like a well tuned motorcycle with focus and direction. That is the kind of classroom I desire. Another way to state the meaning of this philosophy is to follow the guidance of the Socratic method after Socrates, the Greek philosopher. Students and teachers should continue asking questions until the stated problem is solved. The learning process must be a process of reflection, cooperation, and respect.
Yes, this is a photograph 0f my 2002 V92 Polaris Victory Cruiser. I have driven it 65,000 miles since I purchased it from D & E Sports of Roseau, Minnesota in 2002. Only one factory part, a fuel pump, has failed. The Polaris V-twin engine has demonstrated reliability and economy.
