Roseau School Will Host Veterans Day Program

The Roseau School will host the annual Veterans Day program commemorating local veterans’ service to the country.  All area veterans and the general public are invited to the program on Monday, Nov. 12 in the Roseau High School Gym.  The Veteran’s Day program begins at 2:00 pm with all K-12 students attending and various students in the elementary school and high school also participating in the program.

The program is being planned, in part, by a group of RHS seniors including the 2018 Boys State representative (Dalton Hanson) and the 2018 Girls State Legion representative (Emma Waling).   The school also works with representatives from the Roseau American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars to plan the program.

This year is the 100th anniversary marking the end of WWI or the First World War or the Great War or “the war to end all wars.”  WWI started on July 28, 1914, 100 years ago.  So it is fitting on this Veterans Day or Armistice Day to remember those soldiers who fought in this war and especially the nearly 50 Roseau County veterans who gave their lives in this conflict.

WWI ended on Nov. 11, 1918.  In November of 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Nov. 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day.

School doors will be open specially for the Veteran’s Day program for the public to access our buildings.  However, beginning November 12th (and after the Veteran’s Day program) door access to the school will be changing to improve security and safety in our schools.  So will I repeat door access information that I stated in a previous column.  “In summary, during the school day, three doors (entrances) will be open and the remaining nearly 80 doors will be locked to prevent access from the outside.   Entrance to the Elementary School will be thru the main school entrance on the north side of the school.  This entrance is labeled N1.  Entrance for use of community facilities such as the pool and fitness center will be the west parking lot school entrance labeled W5.   The entrance to the High School will be thru the west parking lot entrance for the Math Wing/Study Hall Room labeled at W3.”   GO RAMS!
