COMPAS Spoken Word

High school English students at of Carla Olsen will have the opportunity to write Spoken

Word with artist, See More Perspective the week of April 8 – 12.

SEE has done years of youth work through hip hop and spoken word—dealing with

social justice, identity and community engagement issues; has performed at countless

venues and festivals; and has spoken at and facilitated workshops at various social

justice conferences and retreats. He aims to inspire, uplift and open doors to possibility

and imagination with an invitation to self-discovery through meditations on community,

history and the expression of pure imagination.

SEE has shared stages with the likes of Brother Ali, Umar Bin Hassan of The Last

Poets, Dead Prez, Sage Francis, Michal Franti, Atmosphere, De La Soul, The White

Stripes and many more. In this residency, students will explore the roots of Spoken

Word as an art form, tell stories about who we are, and learn the fundamentals of

performance. They will explore our cultural identities and use that as a platform to

create original work. Students will engage with the culture of Spoken Word, build

community with their peers, and talk about things that matter to them.

The residency is arranged with COMPAS. A special thank you to the Roseau Parent Teacher

Organization for making this opportunity possible for our students.
